Western Digital SSD is now licensed for PS5

Sony and Western Digital have partnered to license a specific SSD model for use in the PlayStation 5. This is the WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe PS5 SSD: it was already available in the market, but now it has become official for the console.

Therefore, the SSD is also sold in special packaging that follows the aesthetics of official Sony accessories with the PlayStation Licensed Product seal. The product can be used to increase the memory of the console, which is 825 GB (667 GB free). Check the product box:

“We’re excited about this new journey with Sony Interactive Entertainment and the opportunity to bring an official, licensed device to PS5 gamers,” said Susan Park, Western Digital’s vice president of product management for consumer solutions, in an official statement.

“Western Digital’s WD_BLACK brand was created to bring high-quality products to gamers everywhere. With this innovative partnership, we intend to deepen our ongoing commitment to developing storage solutions that enhance the gaming experience for all players.”

The product retails in the US and select countries for $169.99 for the 1TB version and $279.99 for the 2TB model. There is no release date in Brazil.
