Character Samuel L. JacksonNick Fury, Marvel fans are replacing SHIELD with another director. Recently, the actor tweeted an advertisement for Marvel’s new fighting card game called “Marvel Snap,” in which he appears to be reprising his role as Fury from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the post, the actor wrote:
“Starting today, I will be replaced as Director of SHIELD as @MarvelSnap now gives players control over the entire Marvel Universe. Do you think you can do as good a job as I do?”
In the game trailer, Nick Fury goes directly to SHIELD’s human resources to discuss his resignation as director of the organization. There she also asks how everyone knew about her termination even before.
The new members of SHIELD inform him that his new replacement has arrived and that he already has a new team of superheroes. Moreover, they announced that the new team will consist of Spider-Man, Gamora, Doctor Doom and Squirrel.
Although Fury is resistant to this change, SHIELD’s HR representative asks him to find his new replacement. Turning around, Fury discovers what appears to be a Marvel fan on his phone running the entire team. He then turns the phone over and shows Fury that it’s his phone’s screensaver. Thus, the ad cuts to the middle of Fury’s angry reaction upon learning of his new replacement.
Effective today, I am taking over as Director of SHIELD because now, @MarvelSnap Gives players control over the entire Marvel Universe. Do you think you can do it as well as I do? You will see. pic.twitter.com/8NcdLg1VJK

The Marvel Snap app is available on iOS, Android, and Steam. At the end of the announcement, the card battle game is described as offering fans the entire Marvel Universe at their fingertips. This includes characters that have yet to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In light of all this, it is interesting to recall that actor Jackson played the role of Fury after the post-credits scene of the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man (2008). In 2012’s The Avengers, Fury was the one who assembled a team of superheroes.
Jackson recently played the role in the post-credits scene of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019). And while the character appeared to be Peter Parker’s mentor for most of the film, it was revealed that he was actually Skrull Talos in disguise.
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role in the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion, which will be released in 2023. The production is based on the comic by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Leinil Francis Yu. He will also reprise his role in Marvels, which will be released on July 28, 2023.
