Resident Evil Village: You can’t even see Ethan’s face in third person

Try to see his face and he will ignore you when you look away

The new Resident Evil Village expansion will bring a third-person mode to the game’s main campaign. A lot has been done from scratch for the new perspective, according to the developers, but even so, It will be impossible to see the face of the game’s hero, Ethan Winters.

During yesterday’s showcase, game director Kento Kinoshita said the mode is also aimed at those who feel sick of the first-person perspective and want to play. But he also said that “even in third-person mode, if you try to turn the camera around to see his face, Ethan moves away.”

This time we won’t see the face of the hero of this new phase of the franchise, which will already be completed with the DLC Shadows of Rose, which arrives on October 28 with the Winters’ Expansion.

A demo with third-person mode is available

A demo version of the third-person mode has been released on all platforms where the game is available. The demo takes place in a castle after Lady Dimitrescu hangs Ethan and leaves him locked in a room. The demo lasts 60 minutes, and it seems like you can explore as much as you can in that time.

I tried a new perspective and you can’t really see the character’s face. When he turns the camera, when he is close to seeing Ethan’s face, he turns too. Many games do this, even those that show the hero’s face.

Also, during cutscenes, the perspective switches back to first person. That is, Capcom does not want to show the rest of the character anyway. The choice of this could be due to the difficulty (and more work) of bringing Ethan’s face to life with a facial expression, or Capcom wanted to get a meme where the character doesn’t have a face.

Anyway, what I was able to experience in the demo is pretty convincing, the third person mode works just like Resident Evil 2 and 3. The perspective can be changed at any time during the game.

If you already own the game on Steam, you need to do the following to try the demo: win+R, type “steam://open/console”, then “app_install 2062120 in steam://open/console” (without the quotes ). For some reason, if you have the game in Valve’s library, you download the full game instead of the demo. This can be fixed at any time.
