Remember the 7 announced games that disappeared from the map | games

Advertised games, even if they generate high expectations in the public, don’t always pan out. After all, game development can be time-consuming and full of unexpected obstacles that can derail long-awaited titles for years. The Elder Scrolls 6, Beyond Good and Evil 2, and Crimson Desert are just a few examples of games that have experienced this evil – and to this day, many people are still waiting for news.

But it is worth noting that this does not always mean cancellation. Dead Island 2, for example, fell into this situation, but the game just received a release date at Gamescom. See, below, some of the major projects that have been “lost” and everything that is known about them.

The first game in Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil saga was originally released in 2003 for PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox, attracting attention for its high quality and adventurous gameplay, just like another successful series: The Legend of Zelda. Although well received by critics, the game did not sell well and players were desperate for a sequel, even if the game finished strong. To everyone’s surprise, a trailer was released in 2008 with Beyond Good and Evil 2 starring Jade and Paige. However, soon after that, the game faded away for years.

At E3 2017, Ubisoft showed more of Beyond Good and Evil 2, with a new concept of space pirates, as well as two new characters: Shani and Knox – the latter, a hybrid monkey. In 2018, the game was last mentioned with another trailer featuring former hero Jade as a villain without further explanation. Since then, no news has been released about the game, only statements from Ubisoft CFO Frederic Dougette that the project is still well underway.

A game that quickly became very popular with users was Crimson Desert, an open world game with a medieval fantasy theme from Pearl Abyss, the studio known for the MMO Black Desert Online. The game was unveiled in an impressive trailer during The Game Awards 2020 and will be a prequel set in the same universe as Black Desert, which is scheduled for release in late 2021. However, the game became independent from the previous series.

In the first half of 2021, consumers were already feeling the absence of gaming in gaming conversations. In July, during the quarantine period, it was then announced that the game would be delayed in order for the developers to create the best possible experience and ensure the health and safety of everyone involved in production. Crimson Desert hasn’t been heard from since, and the last post on the game’s official Twitter account was a year ago, in September 2021.

One of the most anticipated games for Nintendo Switch has not even been shown to players. The fourth chapter in the saga that began on the GameCube and made its way to the Nintendo Wii was originally announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation for E3 2017. As of now, the project has only been shown with a logo and is believed to be developed by Bandai Namco. Unlike the original trilogy, which was produced by Retro Studios.

The lack of images or videos of Metroid Prime 4 in the following years made fans of the franchise suspect that something was amiss with its development. In January 2019, Nintendo announced in a Nintendo Direct that it would resume development and return the production company to Retro Studios, and therefore it would take longer for players to see the game. Since then, there are no images or an estimated release date. However, the company did not explain why it made this decision, but there are speculations that the quality of the project was not up to par with other chapters in the series.

The long-awaited sequel to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, originally released in 2011, was announced during the 2018 E3 trade show. At the time, the game was only confirmed with a small teaser and a title, and then disappeared for the next few. years. Many fans of the RPG franchise have come to the conclusion that the announcement came too soon, as The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in its early stages of production and the game will likely take years to release. At the moment, producer Bethesda is more focused on finishing the new Starfield RPG game, which is scheduled for release in the first half of 2023.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has commented that he believes The Elder Scrolls 6 should be released after a new game in the Fable saga developed by Playground Games – another title is “missing” and some details have been revealed. Bethesda director Todd Howard stated in June 2022 that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in “pre-production”, with many details about the game not even finalized. However, there is some confirmation that the title will be exclusive to Xbox and PC after Microsoft buys Zenimax, Bethesda’s parent company, in March 2021.

A game that didn’t make it on this list like the others, The Outer Worlds 2 is the sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’s critically acclaimed first-person shooter. The title was announced at E3 2021 with a fun trailer, lots of action and narration that teased the fact that the game isn’t ready, and the only thing that was announced was the title.

Despite missing E3 2022, The Outer Worlds 2 is probably the title on the list that is likely to make news soon. Production company Obsidian Entertainment tends to work quickly and has a good track record of delivering their projects within a reasonable timeframe. Considering that the first The Outer Worlds was announced in 2017 and then released in 2019, the studio should have had plenty of time to prepare the sequel and could be ready to reveal something next year.

Titles from Rockstar Games, the producer of series like GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2, always create high expectations among players, but unfortunately Agent was one of the rare cases where this wait was not rewarded. Announced at E3 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Agent was described by Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser as a fast-paced action game set in the late 1970s during the Cold War.

Rumors pointed to a 2010 release for Agent, and even a year later, Rockstar Games continued to insist that the title was in development – until it dropped off the map. The company continued to update the game’s trademark app called “Agent” with a gun shadow letter “G” until it was abandoned in 2018. The project has not been officially canceled, but Rockstar Games has removed it. Their list in 2021 and most users have already given up on watching a game day.

Revealed at the 2018 Tokyo Game Show in Japan, Project Awakening surprised everyone and stood out as a beautiful open-world game with RPG elements for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). Since its announcement, producer Cygames has barely spoken about the title and no new information has been released. In November 2021, a new video was shown during the company’s technical presentation, only to talk about the game’s graphical terrain generation tools, which use its own Cyllista Game Engine.

Cygames has more experience with small games and mobile games. Project Awakening, the tentative title, will be its first major console game. The intention is for the title to be the company’s entry into the Western market, but the scope of the game could prove to be a challenge for the studio. In a 2019 interview, producer Kenichiro Takaki stated that if new platforms were available, he would have no problem releasing the game on them. So, considering the announcement and the time the game will probably take anyway, it’s highly likely that the game will have at least one version for the PlayStation 5 (PS5).
