Pokémon Scarlet and Violet won a new gameplay trailer this Wednesday (3), airing on Pokémon Presents. The games have revealed details about various aspects of the ninth-generation Little Monsters, including a look at a new combat mechanic called Terastallize, and even the name of a new region called Paldea. The games are scheduled to release on November 18 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and are not localized to Brazilian Portuguese.

In keeping with the series’ lore, trainers must face the leaders of eight gyms scattered across the region to qualify for a greater challenge in the Pokémon League to become champions. The difference is that now there is no predetermined order of gyms and players are free to decide how they want to progress.

In addition, there will be two more stories with some surprises and discoveries, the details of which have not yet been released. One of them is related to a treasure-related event promoted by the academy where the main character studies.

A curious discovery is that new legendary Pokemon, Koraydon and Miraidon, accompany the player at the beginning of the adventure and serve as mounts, taking different forms depending on the need. Their original names, in Japanese, have to do with the past (ancestor) and the future, and it looks like the game will play with that theme a lot.

When used as mounts, the creatures look a lot like motorcycles, but they also serve to cross seas and fly at high altitudes. You can team up with up to three friends online to discover Pokemon and freely explore the region, each with their own Koraidon or Miraidon depending on the version of the game.

However, the main thing is the new combat mechanic called Terrastalization, which gives small monsters a crystallized appearance and can enhance and dial their attributes. This is the equivalent of Mega Evolutions and Dynamax from previous games. In this phenomenon, which is only present in the Paldea region, Pokémon glow with jewels on their heads as if they were crowns. Professors Sada and Turo are in charge of investigating this mystery.

According to The Pokémon Company, each small monster will now have one of 18 “terra” types that are only taken into account when Terastalize. This means that Pokemon can change typing when transforming, changing their weaknesses and giving battles a new layer of strategy.

This phenomenon is only possible by using the Tera Orb, which is in the possession of select trainers. It must be recharged at Pokemon Centers or Energy Crystals scattered throughout the region. Finally, multiplayer raids are back, but they promise to be much more dynamic than Pokémon Sword and Shield.
