Blizzard revealed that Jeff Goodman wanted to leave the company earlier this year
One of the big names in development Overwatch 2 and famous characters from the first version of the game, Jeff Goodman is no longer part of Blizzard. The information was confirmed in the company itself PC Gamer Last Tuesday (20).
Blizzard revealed to the portal that the decision was made by Jeff himself, who chose not to continue working for the company earlier this year. Despite this, Overwatch 2’s lead designer is leaving just weeks before the title’s release.
He last appeared publicly at Blizzard’s press conference to present details of the new Overwatch game. With everything on track for the launch, Jeff felt comfortable leaving the company.
“We thank Jeff for his years at Blizzard and wish him all the best. His ability to bring the diversity of Overwatch’s characters to life has been incredible, and the mark he has left on the Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be celebrated for years to come.” , – the company said PC Gamer.
In addition to Overwatch 2, Jeff is also the mastermind behind the characters familiar to fans of the first game. This is because he is one of the main developers of Tracer, Mercy and D. Va. He was also responsible for helping repair Doomfist and Orisa, in addition to the heroes of Sojourn.
Blizzard is undergoing changes at the top of the company
Jeff Goodman’s journey at Blizzard began before Overwatch became an overwhelming success. That’s because it came to the company while still in the Titan project, scrapping and returning Game of the Year at 2016’s The Game Awards.
The departure of the head of game design was not explained by Blizzard, who only revealed that it came from Jeff himself. However, it does show that the company has undergone a series of changes in leadership.
In addition to him, the company Blizzard and other names that make up the history of Overwatch also left. The game’s executive producer, Chacko Soni, left the company in 2021, as did producer Tracy Kennedy.
Overwatch 2 is coming out next month. Blizzard announced earlier this week that the Overwatch 1 servers will be shut down on October 2nd, so the new version will be available to all players on October 4th.
Overwatch will be available until October 2nd; Overwatch 2 releases on October 4th
The servers will be closed for 27 hours to implement the new game
