Game 171 is an open world indie title inspired by the classic Grand Theft Auto series, GTA. The game already has an alpha version available through Steam and the game is predicted to officially arrive in 2024. The plot follows the story of Nicolau Souza, a worker who must defend himself from criminals who attacked his brother. However, campaign mode content will still be available to players as the game progresses.
At the moment, 171 is available in Early Access only for PC and to play it, you need to pre-purchase the title for R$59.99 on Steam. The developers have already announced that the idea is to also launch the game for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but it is still unknown when this will happen. Created by the Betagames Group, 171 ideas emerged in 2010 and went through several previous versions before being converted to Unreal Engine 4 in 2015. In 2019, the company conducted a crowdfunding campaign that raised almost R$ 70 thousand, money that helped pay expenses and accelerate the development of the game.
At the moment, the game is an open-world exercise, with no campaign mode yet, although it is possible to save your progress. In this version, it is now possible to explore the city by foot, car or motorbike, in addition to climbing walls and visiting houses, 20% of which have interiors. Some random events may also occur. The streets are also inhabited by non-player characters (NPCs, in English) who can react in different ways to the player’s actions.
The game allows you to earn money by working in the city or doing criminal activities. Money can be spent in clothing stores, selling weapons or changing cars. However, through criminal activities, the player can attract the attention of the authorities, who will try to stop him. The game will still have a system that indicates the seriousness of the threat, just like in GTA.
A big attraction and differentiator of 171 is its environment, which brings in typical Brazilian elements. Players will feel like they are on the streets of most Brazilian cities as they observe the style of construction of houses, walls and gates, cars, bus stops and food stalls scattered throughout the city. Even a friendly caramel vagrant will be introduced into the game environment.
The name already refers to Article 171 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the crime of embezzlement. The game is not recommended for people under the age of 18 due to extreme violence, illegal drug use and sensitive themes.
