How to fix slowdown or frame drops in MultiVersus menu on PS4 and PS5

MultiVersus It’s in beta and early access, and we’ll have an open beta on July 26th. Because of this, the game is prone to errors.

One of them is a bit desperate: as soon as you start the game on PS4 or PS5, there will be a few frame drops in the main menu – the usual slowdown. You’ll know there’s a problem if the character in the bottom right corner when you load the game already has those drops when you see “Account Sync”.

What causes this and how to prevent it?

We don’t know for sure and we have seen few cases. In my case, it happened on both PS4 and PS5. The only difference is that I have the founder’s pack and that could be the problem. But not sure if this is the reason, it will depend on more accounts. Because we don’t know the exact cause, it’s hard to say what can be done to prevent the problem.

When this first happened to me, I couldn’t find any other reports and tried several things to fix it: restart the video game, reinstall the game, etc. There are two solutions, one is temporary, the other allows you to play, but every time you start the game, the problem occurs:

  • Delete the local save from the console. If you do this, your game progress will not be lost (it is stored on the servers). however, You will lose progress with your trophies. For some unknown reason, trophy progress is saved locally. So even if your profile says, for example, 100 knockouts, the trophy will only appear if you play 100 knockouts on that save. Maybe that’s why there’s no auto-pop. This is the solution temporarybecause the problem occurred again two days later;
  • Quitting the game completely freezes the main menu screen for about 5 minutes (usually less than that). Literally do not click anything or try to enter any options. After finishing, you will see that the frame rate will be normalized and you will be able to play normally.

The main menu standby solution was suggested on the game’s official Discord and is what I used when I played. It’s not ideal (every time I launch the app the problem occurs), but at least I’m not losing progress on trophies.

Again, since this is a beta game, it’s expected that issues like this will happen. Fortunately, the developers should find out what is causing this and fix it as soon as possible.
