EA Sports has announced that character Ted Lasso, from Apple’s eponymous series, will be featured in FIFA 23, as will AFC Richmond, a fictional club in the series. Playing with the club and manager will be available in several game modes, including Career Mode, Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons. Additionally, AFC Richmond items such as kits, mosaics, manager items and other content will also be available in FIFA Ultimate Team, the most popular mode in the game apart from Pro Clubs.
Ted Lasso is a character played by Jason Sudeikis in the Apple TV series and has been very successful worldwide. Lasso is a college soccer coach signed to English team AFC Richmond, which is fictional (but we can say he has loose inspiration from Crystal Palace).
In the game, it will be possible to choose Ted Lasso as the manager in career mode, choosing the American with a characteristic mustache to manage Richmond FC or any other club. You’ll also be able to select AFC Richmond in career mode and try to bring the charismatic owner Rebecca’s club into the league of your choice.
Players will also be able to create their own manager or choose a licensed manager (a new feature in FIFA 23) to take over Richmond. It will also be possible to create a player and start your journey at AFC Richmond in the league of your choice in career mode as a player.
AFC Richmond will be part of the “Rest of the World” league for Quick Play, Online Friends and Online Seasons. The Greyhounds have Roy Kent, Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisania and Dani Rojas. AFC Richmond’s iconic stadium, Nelson Road, will also be available in FIFA 23.
In the case of Ultimate Team, or FUT as it has become known, content will be available through objectives, challenges and rewards designed for all players to achieve from launch, according to EA Sports. Coach Ted Lasso, Coach Beard, AFC Richmond kits and other cosmetic items for clubs and stadiums will be available in FUT, including quirky items such as badges, flags and more. Nelson Road Stadium will also be home to Pro Clubs.
Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso: “It’s a dream come true”
“I am truly fortunate and deeply grateful to have had so many special moments in my career so far, and I consider this experience to be one of the best,” said Jason Sudeikis, Emmy Award-winner for the series.
“As a long-time fan of EA SPORTS FIFA, to have Ted Lasso and the entire AFC Richmond roster in the latest version of the game is a dream come true for me and the rest of the guys. Our cast and crew have been working very hard on this show and we are delighted that it is resonating with so many people. We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play, play and even play against their favorite characters from AFC Richmond.
“For the past 30 years, EA SPORTS FIFA has been at the forefront of soccer culture. Collaborates with the Warner Bros. team. Interactive Entertainment bringing AFC Richmond to life in-game is another example of how EA SPORTS continues to blur the lines between gaming, entertainment and the real world of football.
“In a short time and with limited previous experience, Ted Lasso has become a cultural phenomenon, bringing the passion and power of football into the lives of millions of fans around the world,” said David Jackson, vice president of branding. EA SPORTS FIFA. “We are delighted to welcome Ted and AFC Richmond to FIFA 23.
Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent: “It’s cool to be in FIFA”
“It’s really cool to be in FIFA. I’m not sure if it will help dispel the CGI rumors, but it’s worth doing,” said Emmy winner Brett Goldstein, who plays AFC Richmond’s Roy Kent. “I can’t wait to have my nephew play Roy Kent with me.” together, and him as Jamie Tarte. He’s going to be pissed off.”
FIFA 23 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and will be available worldwide on September 30 on Playstation 5, Xbox Series S|X, PC, Stadia, PS4 and Xbox One. Those with the Ultimate version will be able to start the game on September 27th, three days before the official launch.
