Beyond Good and Evil 2 takes 5,200 days to develop, a new industry record

Duke Nukem stayed forever

When we talk about titles that took a long time to produce, Duke Nukem Forever comes to mind and was the biggest record holder in this regard. Ubisoft now takes the crown with Beyond Good and Evil 2 in development, 5,200 days after its announcement.

According to Journalist Brendan SinclairFrom the Games Industry website, Ubisoft’s title is in development 5239 days (amended today, October 3rd) since the first trailer was released in 2008, a long time ago 14 years ago.

It may seem like a joke, but Duke Nukem Forever is in the Guinness World Records As the game with the longest development period at 5156 days. The game was introduced on April 28, 1997 and released on June 10, 2011, after 14 years and 44 days of development.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has not revealed any news for 4 years

Beyond Good and Evil 2, the sequel to the original title released in 2003, is now the name that represents one of the most troubled game developments in the history of the industry. A few times the title appeared and disappeared from the map, and this inconsistency meant that many people lost their expectations.

In 2017, at that year’s E3, Ubisoft brought the game to life with a new cinematic trailer. A few days later, a gameplay trailer was released, indicating that the game was not only still in development, but had a new look for this generation of consoles.

Another pre-alpha development video was released the following year. There’s no denying that what Ubisoft has presented so far looks (or looked) promising. After that, the French studio did not reveal anything more than the title.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the title the studio has struggled with the most, but it’s not the only one. Skull and Bones is another one that keeps getting delayed. Despite this, Ubisoft apparently remains committed to developing various titles in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, as it is a money-making machine for the studio.
