Newly discovered in NieR: Automata, the secret area that fans have been wondering about for the past few days has been confirmed as a mod. The revelation was announced during a live stream this Friday (29) and dashed the public’s hopes for one of hack-and-slash’s great mysteries.
According to the developers of the project, DevolasRevenge, Woeful_Wolf, and RaiderB, the research church is just one of the new features introduced as a result of the mod. The live also showed off more assets developed by the creators and confirmed that the content will be available for download under a public license “in the coming days”.

First tweet — User updated Reddit bio to say “not ARG, not official” in Japanese. They also made a few Japanese translation mistakes along the way before settling on this version.
Second tweet — The creator of NieR’s “Secret Church” went live on Twitch and broadcast footage of himself playing through a new extended scenario that took place in both new and existing areas, before thanking the mod developers for their work and the community for the hype.

NieR: Automata hits 6.5 million units
